I guess to be good in the kitchen you have to have lots of practice being bad. Tonight was bad. I should have known things weren't going to be good when the recipe didn't call for 4 cloves of garlic! I made acorn squash with apple/vegetable/couscous filling (it sounded good, but not worth the link, don't try to make it). I think that the problem stems from me not actually liking acorn squash. And it had this tomato-ish bouillon type thing in the couscous....disgusting. Needless to say, I'm hungry, and going to eat popcorn to fill the void ;)
The saving grace of my meal, which is using what saves it for me, was the bread.....ahhhhh, I made Cheese & Chive Buttermilk Biscuits. Heavenly. How can you go wrong with butter, buttermilk and cheese? Exactly, you can't. I'm looking forward to breakfast tomorrow, when I can go into the refrigerator and grab the leftover mix and make four more biscuits :)
That is all.

oh my, maine
Things I have seen that make me wonder about the state of Maine.
1) Woman shop-vacing her flower beds
2) College student riding home from school on his unicycle
3) The absurd amount of Dunkin Donuts and cemeteries
4) The ever constant 25 mph speed limit
That is all.....or is it?

a lazy wednesday.....
I think that today has been the laziest day of my life. It is 3:10 and I am still sitting on my chaise lounge with my kitty-cat nightgown on, absolutely bawling my eyes out as I watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition....needless to say, it's a pathetic sight. There are reasons for this pathetic attempt at ignoring the day: 1) I really want to knit, but, since I am so incredibly lazy today, I have only gotten about ten rows done. 2) Brian woke me up this morning.....I was not happy about it. 3) We had guests over last night!
EEK! Finally, after two years of planning dinners with Mel, I had someone over for dinner! It was a night Mel would have been proud of had she been here. I made Turkey and Spinich Potato Lasagna, which is the most amazing lasagna you can eat, with veggie sides and the famous Parmesan Herb Loaf. I also made yet another apple crisp.......ahhhh, fall.
Blah, blah, blah, things and stuff
that is all.

Obsessed; or For Every Small Doorway, There's an Owl.
that should be the title of my blog. I have many short-lived, yet strong burning obsessions. Currently they are as follows:
1) Owls
2) Cooking
3) Food Porn (I will be attending FPA meetings every other Thursday on the advice of my therapist)
Surprising, I know, but true. At the time, these obsessions get me through the day. Take today's events for instance. The Methodist church was having a yard sale. I was CERTAIN that we would find chairs for our kitchen table (at the moment we are using quite uncomfortable wooden folding chairs. That may be the reason that dinners have been so disgusting lately). To make a long and boring shopping trip story short, there were no chairs. To redeem itself of a horrible yard sale, the church provided a small owl suncatcher for me to enjoy. Which I am as I type.
As upset as I was at having to eat another meal in the folding chair, my mood was lifted by the thought that today was the day that we were getting Jon's old couch. Though I love our air mattress chaise lounge, I was looking forward to having a big kid place to sit. I don't even have to say it, I am sure you can guess by the title, but again, our attempts at furniture acquisition were foiled. This time, however, fate did not put an owl in my path, but something much more delicious: Curried Sweet Potatoes with Spinach and Chickpeas. It's amazing. It needed a little salt, could have been a bit more spicy, and I didn't have any cilantro. But, it was amazing. I have been craving Indian food since we moved here, and now I got it. If there is one curry dish you should ever make, it's this (or chana masala, but that's for another time).
This is me, about to enjoy a steaming bowl of deliciousness....please take note of the brown and green goblets that I acquired today as another small gift for my furniture inconveniences.
Brian will rue the day he told me to blog (I thought this as I began this post, but now can't remember why I was thinking it.....though it still rings true).
That is all.

bread
So, Brian is upset because he told me to blog about my cooking (we had just seen Julie & Julia, which might I add, Brian loved), and I did not mention cooking at all. Well, cooking is my current obsession. I sit at home all day, looking at food porn, wondering what to make for dinner. Will this last? My hips hope not. Alas, after last nights flop of a dinner (the pork tenderloin actually tasted like old bay flavored jello) I have turned my sights to bread. The saving grace of dinner was the parmesan herb loaf from taste of home's cooking for 2 magazine. It was amazing. We ate the entire loaf (which isn't too bad, considering that it is meant for two people, but still, it was a lot of bread.....and glancing at the nutrition info, it was about 600 calories for half a loaf. Oops!).
After tasting the bread, Brian told me that I should make more bread (which I have been wanting to do), so I bought Artisian Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery that Revolutionizes Home Baking. I'm pretty excited about this, especially since I only had to pay $7 for it since Mel and Nelly gave me a B&N gift card for my birthday (thanks girls!). In three to five days I will be enjoying wonderful homemade bread......ahhhhhhhh!

because I was told too.
Brian and Anna told me I should blog. So I am. I was going to resurrect my xanga from back in the day, but that was full of too much shit, so here we are.
A few things about Maine.
1) There are an excess of Dunkin Donuts and cemeteries.
2) I am allergic to our new apartment.
3) .......Oh, the moose signs. There are moose warnings ALL over the place
That is all.
